1.Penn began playing intercollegiate football in about 1876.

2.The first football teams on campus were some class teams, but these teams developed later than other teams in cricket, baseball and rowing.

3.According to the University Magazine, Penn's first student news publication, the Athletic Association was looking to pick 20 players to play a game of football against Columbia.

4.This "twenty" never played Columbia, but did manage to play twice against Princeton.
